outreach

Since 2007, the Maine Academy of Modern Music has empowered young people across Maine. Every lesson, rehearsal, and performance helps students grow as musicians, leaders, creative thinkers, and engaged members of their communities. Whether a student is picking up an instrument for the first time, joining their first band, writing an original song, or stepping onto the stage for a live performance, MMAM makes life-changing experiences possible.

As a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Maine Academy of Modern Music created the Amplify Initiative to expand equitable access to music education. Through partnerships with schools, youth organizations, and other community service agencies, Amplify provides accessible music education experiences across Maine. Through these collaborations, we create meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and thrive through music.

The Network:

Portland:

Since 2007, Portland has been the home of the Maine Academy of Modern Music and remains the center of our statewide operations. MAMM delivers year-round music education through private lessons, rock bands, workshops, camps, performances, and community events that serve students of all ages and experience levels.

By partnering with organizations including the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Maine, the Portland YMCA, Portland Public Schools, Long Creek Youth Development Center, libraries, community centers, and youth-serving nonprofits, MAMM creates meaningful pathways for youth to connect with their communities through music.

Central Maine:
(Bangor, Waterville, Orono)

MAMM's Central Maine programs bring together students, educators, artists, and community partners to strengthen the region's cultural landscape.

In Bangor, MAMM offers year-round programming through extracurricular music education and summer Rock Camps. Signature community events, including Bang-GORE, Girls Rock, and Pre-Surgam. These provide students with opportunities to learn contemporary music, perform live, and collaborate with peers in a supportive environment.

In Waterville and Orono, MAMM partners with schools to present Amplify Tour concerts and showcase student musicians. MAMM performers have become part of the community's cultural celebrations, including performances connected to the opening of Colby College's Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts and other public events.

Downeast:
(Harrington, Cherryfield, Mt. Desert Isle, Milbridge)

Through its Amplify Initiative, MAMM provides in-school and after-school music instruction, Rock Camps, songwriting workshops, live performances, and community concerts that inspire creativity, confidence, and connection among area youth.

MAMM's work includes collaborations with Cherryfield Elementary School, Narraguagus Jr./Sr. High School, the Criterion Theatre, Healthy Acadia, the Downeast Salmon Federation, and many other community organizations. The Amplify Maine Tour has brought acclaimed Maine musicians directly to rural schools, ensuring students have opportunities to experience professional live music close to home.

*Boston MA:

MAMM's impact extends beyond state borders through its membership in the Berklee City Music Network, a consortium of community music organizations dedicated to expanding access to contemporary music education.

As members of the network, MAMM students and educators gain access to professional development opportunities, innovative teaching resources, and pathways to summer camp and college scholarship opportunities. This partnership connects Maine students with a national community of young musicians while bringing world-class educational resources back to the areas MAMM serves across the state.
