MAMM CoLLABORATIONS

The Maine Academy of Modern Music partners with numerous Maine-based organizations to provide live music across the city of Portland and beyond.

We are always looking at ways to bring music to community projects. Please feel free to contact MAMM if you have ideas for partnerships and collaborations.

MAMM student bands perform at this annual Payson Park festival in Portland. Thanks to a partnership with festival organizers, MAMM receives two 30-minute performance slots across the festival's two days, providing young musicians with professional-level performance experience.

This opportunity builds student confidence while showcasing the quality of community-based music education to broader audiences, inspiring other young people to pursue musical interests and demonstrating the positive impact of arts programming on youth development.

Deering Center Porchfest

Porchfest is an annual September event in the Deering Center neighborhood of Portland. The free event hosts musical performances on neighborhood porches and driveways to celebrate the community. Over 65 bands share their talents across the neighborhood, filling the streets with music. MAMM student bands are part of the celebration and perform throughout the day.

MAMM participation strengthens community connections and brings music directly to this residential area, making live performances accessible to families and individuals who might not otherwise attend concerts.

Annual Smelt Fry at Columbia Falls

Each year the Downeast Salmon Federation holds an annual Smelt Fry with money going towards clean water initiatives and protecting public access to the river. Volunteers work all day to clean and fry freshly caught smelt and serve them to hundreds of people throughout the day. Our Bangor and Portland bands are invited to perform live in front of the venue to arriving and departing visitors.

Portland Sea dogs National Anthem

MAMM works with the Portland sports teams to create opportunities for our students to perform at athletic events. In the waning summer days of 2024, MAMM soloist Emma B. Geller was invited to sing the national anthem in front of the entire stadium of Sea Dogs fans during a Sunday game. This opportunity, in partnership with the Sea Dogs and Best Buddies ME, was a lifelong dream of Emma’s….and she killed it!

Portland Museum of Art

MAMM collaborates with the Portland Museum of Art to enhance their programming with live music, particularly for teen-focused initiatives, including the Cooper Beach tree lighting ceremony, Third Thursday Access for All programming, and Teen Night events.

This partnership enriches cultural experiences by integrating live musical performance with visual arts programming, creating multidisciplinary artistic experiences that provide students with performance opportunities in prestigious arts venues and have their skills contribute to comprehensive cultural programming.

Every year, on Halloween night, the City of Bangor shuts down a stretch of Maple Street in the heart of the city for trick-or-treating. As the sun sets, the streets become alive with all sorts of characters, decorations, lights, and rock. Our Bangor Rocks bands roll up on a flatbed, plug in to a generator, and provide a soundtrack for anybody in a two-block radius.
