Sam Wilson is an award-winning classical guitarist and educator based in Portland, Maine. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, he began playing guitar as a teenager after discovering a passion for music through the video game Guitar Hero. He first performed on electric guitar in rock bands, writing original music and appearing at venues throughout the United States. These groups included Fuiste, Art Contest, Plastique, and a solo project called Spinach.
While in college, Wilson discovered classical guitar and pursued the instrument professionally, earning a Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar Performance from Georgia State University, where he studied with Luther Enloe. He later completed a Master of Music in Classical Guitar Performance at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, serving as Graduate Assistant to renowned guitarist and pedagogue Dr. Andrew Zohn.
Wilson has performed in master classes for many of today's leading guitarists, including Sergio Assad, David Russell, Jason Vieaux, Lorenzo Micheli, Matteo Mela, Jérémy Jouve, and René Izquierdo. After his recent move to Portland, he is excited to join New England's vibrant musical community and continue developing his career as a performer and educator.
Sam is a passionate music fan and is well-versed in different genres and styles, including folk, rock, jazz, and blues. Outside of music, Wilson is an avid basketball fan, enjoys cycling, and is always eager to discuss music with fellow enthusiasts!
